AJ Colby Bio

A native of northeastern Ohio, A.J. grew up in the heart of the Primary Snowbelt in Ashtabula County.

A.J. has always been fascinated by Mother Nature and he knew from a very early age that he wanted to be a Meteorologist.

After witnessing the powerful destruction of an F5 tornado (the deadliest, most violent winds on earth) when he was in 5th grade, his love affair with the weather grew into a healthy obsession.

A.J. began his weather journey by reporting local temperatures and snowfall data to André Bernier and Dick Goddard at WJW Fox 8 News. This love for weather data was augmented by an interest in television weather.

A.J. began as a TV weathercaster when he was just 16 years old at WSEE TV 35 in Erie, PA.

A couple years later, he was hired by WJW to fill in on Newscenter 8 by Virgil Dominic.  While working part time at WJW and WCMH in Columbus, A.J. attended The Ohio State University and graduated with a BS in Arts and Sciences with an emphasis in geography and meteorology.

A.J.’s first full time position was at WICU-TV in Erie, Pennsylvania where he was the Chief Meteorologist for just over three years.

WJW was the next stop as the evening weekend and noon show meteorologist working along side André and Dick for the next three years.

AJ is delighted to be back home at WJW Fox 8 News.
